Acornet upgrade 0.16 - 0.17
===========================
8 December 1996
NOTE
----
This upgrade to version 0.17 affects only the 'infrastructure' of Acornet -
the configuration program, provider files, slipdial script and front-end
control panel - i.e. the bits I'm responsible for. A companion upgrade to
version 0.18 incorporates updates to many of the component applications -
ArcWeb, FreeNews, Slipdial etc. - i.e. the bits other people have written.
The reason for splitting into two upgrades is that some people will have
already updated many of the component applications by hand; they can simply
apply this upgrade and update any remaining applications using my new
semi-intelligent upgrader application (included here). This will save them
downloadeding the 0.17-0.18 upgrade which is nearly 1.8Mb compressed.
Changes since 0.16
------------------
ADDITION: New providers: PIPEX, Planet, Asia Online, Inrete, Poptel,
VoyagerNZ
UPDATE: ZyNet provider has new IP addresses; alternative ZyNetFixIP for users
with fixed IP addresses.
ADDITION: A new program, !AnUpgrade, to allow intelligent upgrading of the
component applications. Accessible from the menu from the 'front panel'.
BUGFIX: The program SeeRes was supposed to boot the component applications
but sometimes caused a clash in use of Wimp Scrap file (seemingly only
affecting RISC OS 3.1). Now replaced by BootApps program.
BUGFIX: Sportster 28k now selects the generic Sportster driver - the
Courier28k driver was not appropriate
BUGFIX: Slipdial script did not honour the pulse-dial option
BUGFIX: Configuration of ArcWeb for provider with no proxy server was
disabling http, ftp & gopher fetching altogether.
BUGFIX: The newnntp program, run when switching between FreeNet and KA9Q,
didn't handle newer versions of FreeNews
ADDITION: New "mtu" option in provider files to override default (required
for Poptel).
UPDATE: Modified nameserver and router IP addresses in IFL provider.
Instructions
------------
Open the archive (Upg016-017) and copy the !AnUpg017 found inside onto your
hard disc. Run it. Drag your !Acornet into the window which appears, as
directed, and click on OK. After a while you should be told that the upgrade
has completed.
